The Refining Capability of Palm Shell Activated Carbon for Waste Cooking Oil

The high level of consumption cooking oil will have an impact on increasing the waste produced. Using needed purification, including through adsorption process using activated carbon. This research aimed to study ability palm kernel shell carbon (PKSAC-AC260) compared standard (DAC or Decolorized Activated Charcoal by Sigma-Aldrich) in refining at various concentrations results showed that type influenced color, free fatty acid content, peroxide value, and saponification value purified oil, but had no effect water iodine value. between PKSAC-AC260 DAC with a concentration 2.5% was able improve quality best oil. Purification used increase color brightness (∆E) 5.44 4.53, reduce content from 1.47% 0.79% 0.61%, 163.47 meq/kg 116.40 98.82 meq/kg, 155.22 mg/g 180.48 184.48 mg/g, respectively. purify is lower than DAC. processed does not meet standards based SNI 3741: 2013.
